Drug Repository
A
well stocked herbal drug repository housing a total of 1000
crude drug samples of authenticated parts of the plants, used
as medicine. This referral facility is accessible to pharmaceutical
industry, traders, medicinal practitioners, natural product
chemists, students and academics.
Herbarium
The
Herbarium at present houses more than 18,000 specimens representing
2,800 species, 1,050 genera and 150 families of Angiosperms,
Gymnosperms and Pteridophytes. A complete record of localities,
habit, habitat, flowering time and other details of every specimen
preserved
has also been recorded and kept in the Herbarium for ready reference.
Work on the digitalization of herbarium has been initiated and
in due course of time Virtual Herbarium will be available on
net.
Bioinformatics
Centre
Bioinformatics
Centre is a well equipped Computer Laboratory engaged in Information
networking in the area of Biotechnology and Plant drugs. It
is connected to Institutional Network through fast Ethernet
LAN for sharing resources on the Network and is providing Email,
online access to literature & databases available on internet.
Library
RRL-library
is holding one of the largest and finest collection on medicinal
and aromatic plants, natural products, food technology, chemistry,
pharmacology and other allied subjects. In all, library is housing
a rich collections of 16725 books, 21593 bound journals, 1591
standards, 2018 reprints, 23270 patents and 170 microfiche.
Gene
Bank
Gene
Bank of medicinal plants of north west himalaya with five components
viz. Resource bank, Germplasm bank, Seed bank, Cryo bank and
Data bank is functioning at RRL.
Centre
for standardisation, quality control and formulation of traditional
remedies/natural products
Since
1995 this Centre is functioning at RRL, Jammu and is actively
involved in the standardization and quality control of herbal
drugs. Also the centre is preparing and supplying standardised
capsules of traditional antidiabetic, antiurolithiasis and other
drugs for clinical trials.
