of Scientific and Industrial Research, India, is perhaps among
the world's largest public funded R&D organisation. Its
chain of 40 world class R&D establishments, with their 80
field stations, spread across India, are manned by 10,000 highly
qualified scientists and engineers, besides 13,000 auxiliary
and other staff. Its range of activities cover practically the
entire spectrum of R&D ranging from aerospace to mining
to microelectronics to metallurgy and so on. CSIR is truly a

Indian
Council of Medical Research
An
autonomous organization established in 1911 as the Indian Research
Fund Association for sponsoring and coordinating medical research.
The name was changed to ICMR in 1949 and it now functions as
a part of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. ICMR maintains
21 permanent mission oriented national institutions, 6 Regional
Medical Research Centres and also maintains several research
units at various medical institutes in the country. In the recent
year, a major research programme on traditional medicine / herbal
remedies have been revived by ICMR with a disease -oriented
approach.

Health Organization- India
WHO
is a specialized agency within the terms of Article 57 of the
Charter of the United Nations. The objective of WHO is the attainment
by all people of the highest possible level of health, which
is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity but is a state
of complete physical, mental and social well being. A characteristic
feature of WHO is its decentralization into six regions. The
regional offices are responsible for formulating policies of
a regional character and monitoring regional activities. India
is in the WHO-South-East Asia Region with its Regional Office
at New Delhi.

of Indian Systems of Medicine
Department
of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy is functioning
under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare since 1995.
This department works for the development of various systems
of medicine such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Yoga, Naturopathy
and Homoeopathy so as to make them as viable systems of medicine
for the health care needs of our people. The thrust areas of
this department include, standardization of drugs and quality
control, ensuring sustained availability of raw material, Research
& development, information, education & communication
and participation of ISM & H in National Health Care Programme
&Family Welfare.

Drugs Manufacturer's Association
IDMA,
founded in 1961, is a premier association of Pharmaceutical
Industry from all over India, manufacturing bulk drugs and formulations.
In addition to working for the protection of interests of this
Industry, this professional and scientific body publishes a
weekly IDMA Bulletin and monthly scientific and research journal
'Indian Drugs'. Other specialized publications from this association
are Annual Publication providing statistical and relevant data,
a Sourcing Directory of bulk drugs and intermediates and regular
updates on Drug Act and Rules. IDMA with collaboration with
RRL, Jammu has also brought out two volumes of Indian Herbal
Pharmacopoeia, the first of its kind, which has been well received.
