Introduction
As an extension of Government of India - UNDP Umbrella Programme on Herbal Drugs, which has helped in fostering and promoting cooperation amongst the participating developing countries and addressing to their training needs in this area, a Knowledge Network on Medicinal Plants and National Centre for Training & Technology Transfer has been established at Regional Research Laboratory (CSIR), Jammu Tawi.

Mandate
To accelerate the development of Herbal Drugs industry through mediation of a comprehensive knowledge base on herbal drugs.

Scope of Activity
This Centre will endeavor to serve as a national clearing house of information on herbal drugs. It will also hold National and International workshops for human resource development in this area in the developing world.

Location
The Knowledge Network Centre is located at Regional Research Laboratory, Jammu Tawi (J & K), which is one of the forty National Institutes of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi.

Reaching Jammu
Jammu, the winter capital of J&K State, is well connected with the rest of the country by rail, road and air. Direct buses ply to and fro between Jammu and most of the important cities of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. There are two flights daily from Delhi to Jammu.

Reaching RRL
Regional Research Laboratory is located in the north western part of Jammu city on the bank of Ranbir canal. The laboratory is 2 km from the city bus stand, 6 km from railway station and 8 km from the air port.

Staff / Infrastructure
RRL is nationally and internationally known for its expertise in the area of medicinal & aromatic plants and herbal drugs. This Institute has all the infrastructural facilities and S & T manpower on all the aspects right from development of agrotechnologies to the production of finished value-added products from medicinal plants. This trained manpower of the Institute provides full backup to this Knowledge Network Centre on Medicinal Plants.
